Dear Friends,
Get ready for an unforgettable celebration on June 22! Join us for our third annual Shalom Summer extravaganza! We’re thrilled to invite you to a fantastic afternoon filled with music, community, and heartfelt gratitude. Shalom Summer is a gathering for all ages, and this year we are featuring vibrant Klezmer music (often described as Yiddish or Jewish jazz), lawn games, family-friendly activities, and delicious snacks available for purchase – including beer, ice cream, and pretzels. The event kicks off with an interactive open jam session (bring your instrument and join in!) led by none other than Hankus Netsky and the Klezmer All Stars, followed by a full concert that will have you dancing, clapping, and smiling all evening.
This year’s band features an extraordinary lineup of musicians. Hankus Netsky, director of the ensemble, is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and ethnomusicologist who has worked with the likes of Itzhak Perlman and Robin Williams. He’ll be joined by Grant Smith on drums and percussion, Eden MacAdam-Somer on violin and vocals, Itay Dayan on clarinet, Susan Hoffman Watts on trumpet, Steve Beskrone on bass, and Dan Blacksberg on trombone.
We’re also incredibly proud to honor five pillars of our community who embody the Jewish value of Hachnasat Orchim – hospitality, our JCC Value of the Year:
Adi Ozery and her family have been deeply connected to the JCC for the past five years, finding strength and belonging in our community through holidays, school, and shared celebrations.
Amit Starfield, who first joined the JCC in 2019, has helped nurture a warm and inclusive environment as a parent and PTO leader, turning our preschool into a second home for families.
Lily Brownstein, a JCC Maccabi athlete and intern, has brought energy and dedication to our programs, strengthening youth connections and community pride.
Marjorie Surden found healing and joy through the Gems senior program, joining a vibrant group that offers support, education, and friendship during a time of personal loss.
Nina Grossberg, whose ties to JCCs span her lifetime, has played a key role in shaping our current community since relocating in 2020, bringing her enthusiasm to everything from preschool to pickleball.
We hope you’ll join us on June 22 for an afternoon filled with everything we love – summer, music, and community. This is a free event, and we welcome everyone to attend. If you’re able, we encourage a donation of $36, but most importantly, we want cost to never be a barrier. Pay what you can, and come celebrate with us. Explore sponsorship opportunities to help support this special day. We can’t wait to share it with you!
Shabbat Shalom,
Alan
