Dear Friends,
Looking for a fun way to move, connect, and celebrate Israeli culture? Join me for Israeli Dancing at the Kaiserman JCC, held Wednesdays from October through June, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No experience is needed, just bring your energy and curiosity! Israeli dance is a joyful, social, and energizing way to exercise your body and mind while immersing yourself in the rhythms and spirit of Israel. Each class blends movement, music, and memory, and you’ll leave feeling refreshed and connected to community.
My name is Don, though most people in the Israeli dance world know me as RakDan, which literally means dancer in Hebrew. I began teaching Israeli dance in 1993 at the Klein JCC in Northeast Philadelphia while working at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine. What started as a small beginner class soon became my life’s work. Over the past three decades, I’ve had the joy of dancing with students of all ages, from preschoolers to active seniors, in schools, synagogues, and community centers across the region.
When I first moved to Philadelphia in 1989, I was searching for connection within the Jewish community and a way to bring Israel closer to home. Israeli dance gave me exactly that, and even introduced me to the mother of my two children! It remains one of the most positive, welcoming ways to celebrate our shared culture and build new friendships.
The full series is $250, or you can drop in for $15 per class. Whether you join weekly or just come once in a while, you’ll find a warm, inclusive group ready to welcome you to the circle. Monthly fitness pass holders can contact Jamie at jamie@phillyjcc.com for a discount code on the full series.
I can’t wait to share the dance floor with you and bring a little bit of Israel into your week.
Shabbat Shalom,
RakDan (Don)
