Dear Friends,
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of a world united by justice and compassion, a vision that feels especially poignant as we follow the news of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. This moment, filled with the hope of peace and the release of hostages, reminds us of the power of collective action, community, and resilience.
At the Kaiserman JCC, we honor Dr. King’s legacy by turning his call to action into tangible community impact. This MLK Day, we invite you to join us for a day of reflection, service, and giving back. From hands-on projects for preschoolers and families to service opportunities for teens and adults, there are ways for everyone to take part in building a better world.
Families with preschoolers can enjoy a morning of joyful play while engaging in good deed activities. Families and teens will work together to address issues like literacy and food insecurity through meaningful projects. Adults will come together to create soup mix jars for donation and reflect on Dr. King’s teachings with a short, thought-provoking film.
Admission to all activities is FREE with the donation of two new or gently used books to benefit BookSmiles, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting literacy in Philadelphia. These donations will help ensure that books reach children and families in need, spreading the joy of reading throughout our community.
Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” This MLK Day, we invite you to join us in answering that question by giving back, reflecting on his teachings, and taking meaningful steps to bring his vision to life.
Let’s come together to honor Dr. King’s legacy, inspired by the hope of peace and the commitment to creating a world rooted in justice, compassion, and unity.
