An Update From Our Schlichim

|

Dear Friends,

Shalom! It’s hard to believe that I’ve been here for almost five months already, and I’m so grateful for the warm embrace of this incredible community. For those of you I haven’t had the chance to meet yet, let me take a moment to introduce myself.

My name is Niv Sadeh, and I’m the Shaliach (emissary) at the JCC, responsible for teen engagement and programming. I grew up in Ramat Gan, Israel, and spent most of my adult life in Be’er Sheva. Before coming here through the JAFI program, I worked in education in Israel, particularly as a youth movement director in the Negev region. I’ve also been an English teacher and a boarding school advisor. In my spare time like hiking. I am a basketball fan and I have learned to cheer for the Eagles as well.
Over the past few months, I’ve felt incredibly supported by this community. My wife, Rony, and I, have been invited to numerous Shabbat dinners, and every conversation has been filled with kindness and advice. It’s clear that this community truly cares for one another.

As part of my role here, I’m working on a variety of initiatives aimed at connecting with teens. I’m meeting with teens and reaching out to congregations, youth organizations, Jewish camps, and both private and public high schools to share the richness of Israel and Jewish identity. Through RootOne, the organization that brought me here, I’m helping teens explore immersive summer experiences in Israel (and for the first time this year, also in Europe!)

I’m also proud to have launched a new leadership program for high-school teens called “The Teen Board.” This incredible group of teens is taking on leadership roles, planning community events, social action programs, and educational initiatives designed to make a real impact within the Jewish community.

After months of engagement, I’m excited to invite you to two upcoming events that I’m truly looking forward to:

Thursday, January 30th, 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Join me and my wife, Rony, as we share our personal experiences from October 7th and the following months of the war. I’ll discuss my time as a reservist on the frontlines, while Rony will share her perspective as an educator in Ashkelon during the conflict. It will be a meaningful evening of reflection and connection.

Sunday, February 2nd, 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Don’t miss our Teen Summer Opportunities Expo! Various organizations will be here to present incredible summer trips, job opportunities, and programs for Jewish teens. This is a fantastic chance for teens and parents to explore the many enriching opportunities available this summer.

I’m eager to see you at one or both of these events and can’t wait to connect with everyone in person.

Finally, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the release of three hostages this week—Emily, Doron, and Romy—from Gaza. The images of them reuniting with their families are a source of great relief, and I continue to hope for the safe return of all the hostages still being held.

Wishing you all a Shabbat Shalom,

Niv Sadeh, Shaliach
