Spotlighting Gems Summer Programing

Dear Friends,

As we welcome June, we are thrilled to share some special Gems at the J programs and events that reflect our commitment to fostering community, creativity, and inclusivity. Our Gems Programming is open to all adults and offers a range of engaging activities designed to bring people together and enrich our shared experiences. Here are some highlights you won’t want to miss:

On Tuesday, June 4th, we invite you to immerse yourself in the meditative and creative process of Zentangle with Mindy Shapiro from 11am-1pm. This workshop, generously supported by an anonymous donor, is available for just $25, with all supplies provided by Dick Blick Art Materials. Zentangle is more than just an art form; it is a practice that encourages mindfulness and relaxation, making it a wonderful way to nurture your creativity and inner peace.

In celebration of Pride Month, we are honored to host Pronouns Defined with Manda Gross on Thursday, June 6th, from 11:30am-12:30pm. This free workshop is essential for understanding the importance of pronouns and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and valued.

Celebrate Shavuot with us on Tuesday, June 11th, from 12pm-1pm in a hands-on cooking class, Do it Dairy: Cheesecake & More. Chef Scott Noy from Chef Dad’s Table will lead this delightful session where we will prepare traditional dairy dishes such as blintze souffle and cheesecakes, alongside some modern twists on these classics. For just $20, participants will enjoy a delicious dairy lunch and take home recipes to share with family and friends.

Discover the vibrant history of the Philadelphia Jewish community in our four-part series, History of Jewish Philadelphia, beginning on Monday, June 24th, from 11am-12pm. Led by Dr. Reena Friedman from Gratz College, this series will delve into key moments from Colonial times through the twentieth century. Using drawings, photographs, and documents, Dr. Friedman will guide us through Philadelphia’s transformation into a center of American Jewish creativity, providing an enriching exploration of Jewish heritage.

Lasty, join us for a poignant and educational experience on Thursday, June 27th, with a trip to the African American Museum in Philadelphia. In honor of Juneteenth, this guided tour will provide deep insights into the rich history and contributions of African Americans. This outing is a meaningful way to honor this significant day and learn together as a community.

We can’t wait to see you at these fantastic events and look forward to a month filled with creativity, inclusivity, learning, and wellness. Make sure to check out all of our upcoming programming online.

Shabbat Shalom,

Jamie and Rachel
