For many in our community the subject of gratitude comes up each November, which reminds me of the Jewish concept of tikkun olam. In English, this translates to “repairing and improving the world.” The JCC is grounded in the strength of community – The idea that none of us is as strong as all of us when we are together. Below you will find some activities and volunteer opportunities that can help us simultaneously take a pause to reflect on what we are grateful for and also give back to the JCC and community at large. Thank you in advance for any ways that you help us make a difference.

November Volunteer Opportunities:
Friday November 11, 2022 – Challah Making with Folkshul
Please email Jamie to receive registration information. In the email please let us know which times you will be there for:
10-11am: Come join us for Challah making. You will make a challah for yourself and one to stay at the JCC for another members’ life event. Whether it is for a happy occasion or a sad one, we will be able to provide someone with a homemade Challah (made by you) and note from the JCC.
11-11:30am (ish) Stay to help one of the preschool classes braid and decorate challah to bring home.
Thursday November 24th – A morning of giving back on Thanksgiving
10:00-11:30 Join the JCC and Aish Chaim at the Kaiserman JCC for a morning of giving back. We will make sandwiches and toiletry bags for people in need.
Please RSVP to ACYouthdept@gmail.com to receive the donation link to sign up.
Through the end of November – Food Collection for the Greater Community
The JCC will be doing a Food Drive for the Mitzvah Food Pantry. They are specifically in need of Canned Beans (Black Beans, Garbanzo Beans or Chickpeas, Pinto Beans, and Kidney Beans) and CREAMY Peanut Butter.
A collection bin will be in the main lobby. All items must have a kosher symbol ie. OU, Star K, triangle K or K. Goya and Giant Brands are Kosher.
Giving Tuesday Videos
We are looking for volunteers to donate their time, just a few minutes, to make a video talking about who you are and why you love the JCC. The videos will be used on giving Tuesday (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving) to help raise money for the JCC. Please reach out to Jamie if you are interested in helping.
