Shalom, Friends,
Today is the day after Yom Ha’atzmaut, and every year Israel’s Independence Day leaves me dreaming of Israel. I find myself remembering the three Yom Ha’atzmauts I was lucky enough to celebrate in Israel, and wondering when I’ll next get to return.
I have good news to share: A trip to Israel is in my future, and hopefully yours. This spring, the Kaiserman JCC, with the support of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, is excited to be launching a new program, Philly Runners in Israel. Philly Runners in Israel is a new initiative that invites all Jewish runners (and friends) of distances long and short to take part.
In the program throughout the summer and fall, we will build a community together here, learning about Israel, participating in a local race, and celebrating Shabbat. Then, in late December to early January, we will travel together to Israel, see the country, eat amazing food, meet Israelis and participate in the Tiberias marathon, in which we get to run/walk along the Kinneret. Please don’t let the name of the race scare you, it has options from 5K to a full Marathon. Non-running friends and partners are welcome to join me in walking the 5K or cheering our runners on the sideline.
In short, this is not your average trip. I hope you will join me in the Philly Runners in Isreal program as we find connectivity and build community together. If you would like to learn more or register*, please visit us online or email me at barrie@phillyjcc.com to set up a time to chat.
*Subsidy is available for the trip for individuals ages 25-40 due to the generous support of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. More details online.
L’shalom,
Barrie
