Discover how Jewish life intersected with the turbulent era of the American Revolution, with a special look at the Philadelphia community. This class explores the experiences of early Jewish residents as they navigated questions of loyalty, opportunity, and identity in a rapidly changing world. We will highlight figures such as Haym Solomon, whose financial support for the Continental Army illustrates the meaningful, yet often overlooked, ways Jews contributed to the Revolutionary cause. Together, we’ll examine how the war shaped Jewish presence and participation in the founding of the nation. This course will be accompanied by a tour of Mikvah Israel.
