An array of characters on a secluded country estate, accompanied by a famous actor. This sounds like the plot of Chekhov’s The Seagull, but it also describes the recent pandemic novel by the Russian-Jewish novelist Gary Shteyngart, our country friend. Whether you’ve never read Shteyngart, or already love him, join us to watch the film the 2018 film The Seagull, with Annette Bening, Saoirse Ronan, and Elisabeth Moss. Followed by a discussion led by Ruth Anolik about the play and the novel. Be ready to think and laugh, as these two Russian writers work their magic separately and together.
