1777 to 1783 the Treaty of Paris & The Creation of an Independent Country
After the Battle of Bunker Hill, the new Continental Army is formed under the command of George Washington. This new army is given the task of defeating the largest and most professional army in the world

After being forced to retreat into Pennsylvania, Washington’s army was, in his words, “worn down” and in danger of dissolving. A win at Trenton and Princeton was needed to prove the Continental Army could still fight and to rally public support.

Washington rushed south to protect the capital, Philadelphia, from the approaching British Army. Again out-maneuvered, the Continental Army settled into camp at Valley Forge.

In history, nothing happens in a vacuum. While Gen. Washington is forced to retreat, the Campaign of Saratoga thunders in central New York. This is the final major land battle in the Northern colonies.

The war then turns south and the British determine to utilize a new Southern Strategy. The Patriot and French armies’ envelope the British at Yorktown.

Signed on September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris officially ended the American Revolutionary War. It formally recognized the independence of the thirteen colonies.
