SUMMARY:Movie Screening & Talk: Screams Before Silence
DESCRIPTION:Adults of all ages can join us for a special screening of Screams Before Silence\, followed by a talk with Shana Weiner\, Executive Director of Dinah Philly. \nDuring the October 7 attacks on Israeli towns and at the Nova Music Festival\, women and girls were raped\, assaulted\, and mutilated. Released hostages have revealed that Israeli captives in Gaza have also been sexually assaulted.\nDespite the indisputable evidence\, these atrocities have received little scrutiny from human rights groups and international organizations. Many leading figures in politics\, academia\, and media have attempted to minimize or even deny that they occurred. In Screams Before Silence\, a 60-minute\, presenter-led documentary film\, Sheryl Sandberg\, former COO of Meta and founder of LeanIn.org\, interviews multiple eyewitnesses\, released hostages\, first responders\, medical and forensic experts\, and survivors of the Hamas massacres. \nAfter the screening\, we will hear from Shana Weiner\, executive director of Dinah\, a Jewish Domestic Violence Legal Service Center\, about the film and her work locally. \n Register Here

SUMMARY:Faith\, Nationalism\, and the Future of Liberal Democracy Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: David Elcott\, Ph.D. \nAt a moment when liberal democracy is so deeply threatened and we search to understand how this can be occurring at this point in history\, a new prize-winning analysis Faith\, Nationalism\, and the Future of Liberal Democracy by David Elcott comes to offer a cogent exploration of the ways religious identity fuels illiberal nationalist and populist democracy across the globe\, from the United States to Israel\, from India to Indonesia. \nElcott\, a powerful analyst who has taught in Jewish communities across North America and interfaith settings around the world\, allows us to better understand the revolts against a political\, social and economic order that values democracy in a global and strikingly diverse world\, while encouraging people of faith to promote foundational support for the institutions and values of the democratic enterprise from within their own religious traditions and to stand against the hostility and cruelty that historically have resulted when religious zealotry and state power combine. \n  \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah | Conversation with Sarah Danon Meller\, Holocaust Survivor
DESCRIPTION:This program is part of our week-long celebration of Israel’s 76th Year of Independence. Learn about all of the programs we’re offering here.  \nJoin us for an intimate and poignant conversation with Sarah Danon Meller\, a Holocaust survivor who endured unimaginable hardships during World War II. Her story is one of resilience\, loss\, and the enduring human spirit. As a young girl\, Sarah’s life was upended by the Holocaust. Forced to flee her home at the age of 10\, she faced hunger\, fear\, and the loss of loved ones. Yet\, she emerged from this darkness with a determination to bear witness and ensure that the atrocities of the past are never forgotten. Sarah’s firsthand account will transport you to a time of unimaginable suffering\, but also reveal the strength of the human soul. As we listen to her words\, we honor the memory of millions who perished and recommit ourselves to preventing such horrors from happening again. \nFor more information about Sarah Danon Meller\, read her full biography here. \nLet us gather in quiet reflection\, acknowledging the weight of history and the importance of remembrance. \n\n \n \n Honoring Israel’s 76th Year of Independence: Programming throughout May at the Kaiserman JCC\n Please fill out one form per family. \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Phone(Required)Email(Required)\n \n How did you hear about this event?(Required)How did you hear about this event?Word of mouthGems newsletterJCC newsletterInternet searchSynagogueOtherHow did you hear about this event - other?(Required)Yom Ha’Atzmaut | Poetry Reading with Adi Keissar\, Israeli Poet\, and Israeli Style Dinner\n \n Tuesday\, May 14 from 6-8pm - $10\n Adi Keissar\, leading Israeli poet\, and founder of the cultural group Ars Poetica\, will read from her poetry in Hebrew and English and will discuss the cultural response for the current situation.
