SUMMARY:A Special Russian Truth Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Kaiserman JCC on Wednesday\, May 20 at 7PM for a 25 minute screening of the award winning film “A Special Russian Truth” immediately followed by an intimate expert interview of human rights activist Dalia Ziada conducted by Liz Berger of Gratz College. \nA Special Russian Truth traces the origins of modern anti Israel rhetoric to a decades old Soviet campaign of antisemitic propaganda disseminated by the KGB and its allies worldwide. This short documentary reveals how their concepts and tactics evolved into ideological tools used in contemporary political and social movements that target Israel and Jewish communities. \nLearn More & Register

SUMMARY:Book Talk - The Last Dekrepitzer with Howard Langer and Pastor Carl Day
DESCRIPTION:The Last Dekrepitzer: Dialogue Through History and Literature – with Author Howard Langer and Pastor Carl Day from Culture Changing Christians Worship Center  \nJoin us for an inspiring evening of dialogue and discovery inspired by Howard Langer’s novel The Last Dekrepitzer. The book explores the deep and complex relationship between the New York Jewish and African American communities during the 1950s and 1960s\, offering a powerful lens into a pivotal era of social change. \nThis special program invites participants to look beyond the story’s spiritual and communal themes to examine the broader dynamics of Jewish–African American relations in the wake of the civil rights movement. By engaging with history through literature\, we’ll open a thoughtful conversation about identity\, prejudice\, and solidarity—connecting lessons from the past to the challenges and opportunities of today. \nDesigned for book lovers\, lifelong learners\, and those passionate about intergroup dialogue\, this event aims to foster empathy\, mutual understanding\, and a renewed sense of partnership between communities. \nThe Last Dekrepitzer follows Shmuel Meir Lichtbencher\, the sole survivor of a Hasidic sect\, from his shtetl in Poland to busking in 1960s New York. His journey\, through war\, exile\, love\, and music\, tells a story of faith\, defiance\, and survival. The book won the Book Club Award from the National Jewish Book Awards. \nHoward Langer grew up on the west side of Manhattan. He graduated from CCNY in 1973. He is a lawyer and has taught law at the University of Pennsylvania for the last twenty years. He began The The Last Dekreptizer\, his first novel and an NJBA winner\, when he was seventy. Howard and his wife live in Philadelphia. SUMMARY:Women's Purity Vs. Technology
DESCRIPTION:For Amish and ultra-Orthodox Jewish women\, smartphones aren’t just tools – they represent a deeper concern about purity and connection. The Amish avoid cellphones altogether\, while the Ultra-Orthodox use only “kosher” phones\, both rejecting smartphones for their perceived impurity. These women believe the device itself is more dangerous than the content it delivers\, blurring the lines between public and private spaces. Above all\, they emphasize the importance of real\, present connection for personal and communal well-being\, arguing that smartphones\, despite offering attention\, ultimately disconnect us from our communities\, ourselves\, and even our relationship with God. \nDr. Rivka Neriya Ben-Shahar is a senior lecturer at Sapir Academic College in Sderot\, Israel\, teaching courses in research methods\, communication\, religion\, and gender. She is currently a visiting scholar at the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. \nIn honor of International Women’s Day March 8. SUMMARY:Movie Screening & Talk: Screams Before Silence
DESCRIPTION:Adults of all ages can join us for a special screening of Screams Before Silence\, followed by a talk with Shana Weiner\, Executive Director of Dinah Philly. \nDuring the October 7 attacks on Israeli towns and at the Nova Music Festival\, women and girls were raped\, assaulted\, and mutilated. Released hostages have revealed that Israeli captives in Gaza have also been sexually assaulted.\nDespite the indisputable evidence\, these atrocities have received little scrutiny from human rights groups and international organizations. Many leading figures in politics\, academia\, and media have attempted to minimize or even deny that they occurred. In Screams Before Silence\, a 60-minute\, presenter-led documentary film\, Sheryl Sandberg\, former COO of Meta and founder of LeanIn.org\, interviews multiple eyewitnesses\, released hostages\, first responders\, medical and forensic experts\, and survivors of the Hamas massacres. \nAfter the screening\, we will hear from Shana Weiner\, executive director of Dinah\, a Jewish Domestic Violence Legal Service Center\, about the film and her work locally. \n Register Here
