Many composers have contributed to this body of work\, among them Bizet and the much loved Puccini. However\, bestriding the world of opera in the second half of this century like twin colossi\, are the towering figures of Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi\, both born in 1813. It is Verdi who will be the subject of our attention and affection in this class. Verdi might justifiably be considered the very soul of opera.
