Dear Friends,

Last week was teacher appreciation week here at the Kaiserman JCC and Robert J. Wilf Preschool and Kindergarten, as well as at schools nationwide. As the son of a teacher, husband to a teacher, and someone who began his JCC career in a preschool classroom at the JCC in Chicago, I couldn’t have more respect, admiration, or gratitude for teachers. Teachers transform lives.

But it’s not easy! During the best of times, teachers, particularly those in Early Childhood Education, are presented with a Herculean task. Their hours are lengthy, and physically taxing. Books have been written about the difficulty of their primary charges (the terrible two’s, the troublesome threes, etc.). And as a society, we routinely fail to recognize their professional merit, or reward it accordingly. And these past two years have been far from the best of times.
At the Kaiserman JCC, we believe our institution is about bringing people together to enhance their lives. There is no capacity in which that happens more impactfully than in our classrooms. And simply put, we have our teachers to thank. I am grateful to our incredible PTO, which spearheaded a week of appreciation for the faculty. In addition, the community, particularly our parents, who often go above and beyond to salvage a difficult day for a teacher by expressing gushing gratitude at pick up.

How can you help? Make a donation in our teacher’s honor. We are currently raising money for a new, toddler playground. Find out more information here, and join the community in celebrating the efforts of our strongest, and most tireless, of professionals.

Shabbat Shalom,
Alan
