700 Cans of Tuna!
Published Friday, December 11, 2015

Nolan Singer is a special young man. He plays soccer, basketball and baseball and is a student at Haverford Middle School.  As he approached his Bar Mitzvah he began to contemplate what type of Mitzvah Project he wanted to complete to commemorate this milestone.  Giving back is nothing new to the Singer family.  They have participated in JRA food drives and have helped deliver meals to those in need.  Feeding the hungry was something he wanted his project to focus on.  After a discussion with his Rabbi at Congregation Beth El Ner Tamid he discovered that a longtime synagogue member, who led the food collection campaigns at the shul, had passed away leaving no one to carry on that tradition.  Nolan immediately accepted the challenge. His mission...to collect as many cans of tuna as he could before his Bar Mitzvah.   He began contacting family, friends and neighbors, reached out on Facebook and through the synagogue.  In the end he collected 700 cans of tuna!  This tuna was donated to the Mitzvah Food Pantry located at the Kaiserman JCC.  Thank you Nolan for completing the Mitzvah of feeding the needy.
