RSVP
Retired & Senior Volunteer Program
RSVP/Philadelphia provides opportunities for people 55 and older, working or retired, to use their skills, talents, wisdom and experience to answer critical community needs through significant volunteer services. There are no requirements to be an RSVP volunteer, only a sincere desire to commit valuable time and energy on behalf of others. Hundreds of opportunities in non-profit organizations are available that are designed to fit the volunteer's interests and daily schedule. These non-profit organizations include schools, museums, Art Goes to School, social service agencies, nursing homes, hospitals, victim advocate agencies and many more.
We like to say, "RSVP has something for everyone!" RSVP volunteers are covered by free excess accident and liability insurance from the time they leave their homes until they return. We also provide free transportation for those people who are registered with CCT Paratransit. RSVP is a part of the Corporation for National and Community Service and is operated on a nonsectarian basis.
The following services are just several examples of how volunteers can fill an important need within the community:
- Drivers to deliver meals to the homebound elderly
- Tutors/reading coaches in elementary schools
- Work with the Art Goes to School program, an art appreciation program for young children
- Advocate on behalf of victims of crime
- Computer literate volunteers to work with The Benefit Bank Program and other computer programs
- Friendly visitors in nursing homes, rehab centers and hospitals
- Guides in museums, historic sites, arts and cultural centers
- Special event volunteers
- Clerical volunteers
